what I meant by saloon was this kind of a room. a hall, or a waiting room, you know the kind that leads to a coridor & all other parts of the bulding...
& thanks for correcting my mistake. It meant a lot to me.

Actually Proshat, even in English, you can use the word 'saloon' to mean a big hall. I have occasionally heard it used to describe such a room on a boat. It is just that in the United States, people generally dont. I wouldnt be surprised to learn that those crazy British folks used it in the way that you do.

You werent incorrect at all. It is just that sometimes there are regional differences in language that can be kind of funny.

For example. A friend of mine was visiting from England. We were hanging out and she said something about it being time to burn a fag. Everyone in the room just looked at her with puzzled and slightly horrified expressions.

You see in England a "fag" is a cigarette but here a "fag" is a homosexual. So people kind of thought she meant that it was time to go burn a person. Obviously it didnt take long to clear up what she meant and we all got a good laugh over it.

Hi Proshat,
English can be a confusing language! Saloon can also mean a large, usually very expensive automobile. There are hundreds of words in English that have two or more totally different meanings. That list is getting longer all the time because a lot of "slang" and non-English words are being used in everyday modern English speech. I can listen to my grandchildren talking to each other and I don't always understand what they're talking about. Sometimes it seems as if their English is a different language from my English.
